a psalm for beginning the day

Early out the door
Down the steps
Take a breath
Gingerly tiptoeing
I stand
Barefoot

Where shadows still sprawl
Dewsprinkled grass chill
Take a step more
The soil warms to morning’s kiss
I stand
Barefoot

Settling down
Into silent prayer
Soles firm, toes flexed
Against the strength of the land
I stand
Barefoot

Relishing the richness
Holy grounding
Anchoring me
In serenity
I stand
Barefoot
