We apologise for the interruption to the usual schedule of idyllic countryside meanderings. Lou is in Glasgow, attending the Fantasy’s Present Pasts conference.
What is it about tote bags?
At registration this morning, along with warm smiles, program info and DIY name badges, there was a box of “fluorescent tote bags” for delegate consumption.
Nothing in them, just the bag. A useful size for papers, water bottle etc. I already had a capacious backpack. I didn’t need a bright pink eco-fabric extra receptacle. But I took one anyway. Most of my fellow delegates are likewise equipped with handbags, satchel, and such, but almost invariably, they took one too.
Why, I wondered. What is it about a “bonus” bag that we must scoop it up and add it to the collection (in my case, the ever-growing collection) of spare bags, shopping bags, random totes of all sizes.
Can we not resist a freebie? Is it an automatic reaction – they’re right there, just take one.
Perhaps, I optimistically wonder, it represents the learning we’re all hoping to take away (how twee do I sound now??)
Anyway. My bright pink tote (which nicely matches my lary Nakie backpack) and I are very much looking forward to what the week holds. Hopefully my damaged knee will bear up under my enthusiasm!
